Since moving to Frankfurt, our enthusiasm for Indian food has grown and blossomed into a deep and enduring passion. There are many fantastic restaurants here – one of which we have already featured – that serve delicious and authentic Indian dishes. What fascinates us about Indian cuisine is the variety of flavors and spices, and especially the heat, which makes Indian cuisine so well known and loved.
Today, we would like to introduce you to eatDOORI. The idea for this restaurant originated in 2015 intending to bring the lively atmosphere of Mumbai and authentic Indian cuisine to Frankfurt residents. Since then, additional eatDOORI restaurants have opened in various German cities. This time, we visited the Oeder Weg location, which has a more “laid-back atmosphere” than the other branches.

Now, let’s move on to the main part: the food. The menu at eatDOORI restaurants combines traditional Indian cuisine with modern elements. It offers a wide range of dishes, including samosas, naan bread, chicken tikka masala, various curries, and the obligatory lassi drink, satisfying every Indian food lover’s heart.
For our evening meal, we selected a spicy chicken biryani and a hearty lamb bhuna as our main courses. As sides, we ordered a fresh cucumber-mint yogurt dip and a filling garlic naan. To complement our meal, we enjoyed two sweet and refreshing lassis in different flavors.
According to tradition, chicken biryani originated in the royal kitchens of Persia and was introduced to India during the Mughal Empire. Since then, it has become a staple of Indian cuisine.
The dish features fragrant basmati rice and tender chicken, enhanced with a variety of spices and flavors, including ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and other spices that give biryani its characteristic taste. These spices create a blend of sweet, savory, warm, and slightly spicy flavors.
At eatDOORI, the chicken biryani is served with spicy chicken breast, carrots, and bell peppers. The juicy chicken breast is marinated in a spice mixture, offering an intense flavor that pairs perfectly with the mild sweetness of the carrots and the fresh heat of the bell peppers. Together with the aromatic basmati rice, it creates a delightful Indian culinary experience.
Bhuna lamb, which originates from Northern India, is known for its intricate flavors and carefully selected ingredients. The term ‘bhuna’ refers to a unique cooking technique where the lamb is slow-cooked in a blend of onions, tomatoes, curry, cardamom, and other spices. This method intensifies the flavors and results in a rich, thick texture. The meat is marinated in a blend of yogurt and spices before being added to the boiling sauce. This enhances the flavour and tenderises the meat.
The cultural significance of lamb bhuna makes it a special dish, not just its taste. It is a staple at many festivals and celebrations in India and often serves as a symbol of prosperity and generosity.
The lamb bhuna was served with rice, similar to the chicken biryani. We also ordered a Garlic Naan to accompany it, which, when dipped into the aromatic bowl of Lamb Bhuna, absorbs the flavors wonderfully. Besides, we really love garlic! 🙂
To calm the stomach, we ordered a refreshing cucumber-mint yogurt dip with pomegranate seeds. The dip has a subtle sourness from the yogurt, combined with the refreshing taste of cucumber and mint, and a hint of sweetness from the pomegranate seeds. This refreshing dip offers a pleasant contrast to the hearty lamb bhuna and chicken biryani dishes. Simply pour it over the meat or rice and enjoy.
Mint & Lime Lassi is a variation of the traditional Indian drink lassi, made with fresh mint and lime juice. It is refreshing, tangy, and slightly sour. The mint adds an herbal note to the drink, while the lime juice provides a sparkling acidity. In contrast, Mango Lassi is made from yogurt, water, sugar, and fresh mango puree. It is sweet, slightly sour, and very refreshing with the fruity aroma of ripe mangoes. Both the drinks and the yogurt dip are ideal complements to the hearty flavors of Indian cuisine.
