When the chill of winter sets in, there’s nothing quite like a warm cup of tea. At this cozy Moroccan spot, our go-to drinks during the colder months are their Green Tea with Fresh Mint and Fresh Ginger Mint Tea.
They’re served in elegant metal teapots with a clever little cap on top to protect your hand from the heat – how thoughtful! Each pot comes with a small glass, making the ritual of pouring and sipping feel extra special. While the teas aren’t sweet, you have the option to add a bit of sugar to suit your taste.
The Green Tea with Fresh Mint is mildly bitter, perfectly balanced by the bright, cooling notes of fresh mint. It’s gentle, delicate, and refreshing – a great companion to rich, flavorful dishes.
The Fresh Ginger Mint Tea, a classic winter remedy, gives a bit of zest. The warmth of the ginger mingles with the crispness of mint, resulting in a drink that’s invigorating yet calming. With its subtle spiciness, it’s perfect for warming you up on a frosty evening.
Petit Mediterrane has an impressive selection of tapas. If you’re new to tapas or simply can’t decide, you can try the Tapas Teller. It’s a sampler plate that brings together a medley of fresh seafood and grilled vegetables, offering a little taste of everything. Among them are plump, tender, and juicy octopus, with a subtle char from the grill that enrich its natural brininess. The shrimps are equally fresh, with a delicate sweetness that’s so irresistible with a drizzle of tangy lemon juice.
The sardines come prepared two ways—fried to a delicious crispiness or marinated in a tangy vinegar-based sauce (known as escabeche in Spanish). The sour version has an incredibly fresh taste, perfect for enjoying with crusty baguette which is part of the Tapas Teller.
The calamari also have two preparations: golden-fried rings that are crispy on the outside, tender inside, and lightly grilled pieces that taste so pure and fresh. A squeeze of lemon adds a bright, citrusy touch to both. The grilled mussels and cuttlefish burst with robust ocean-fresh flavors.
Adding to the plate are a crisp, fresh salad garnish and grilled vegetables, like tender eggplant, and pickled red peppers that are slightly sour and super appetizing—a refreshing contrast to the richness of the seafood. Creamy garlicky aioli dip, along with olives and a drizzle of parsley olive oil over the warm, crusty baguette, completes the Mediterranean feast.
They offer a variety of main courses with different types of grilled seafood, fish fillets, or whole fish. Each plate comes with fresh salad and a rich, garlicky aioli dip. You can choose to pair them with either heaty grilled potatoes or spaghetti for a softer, more comforting accompaniment.
The Grilled Mixed Fish Plate is a great choice for those wanting to try a variety of flavors. This dish includes a selection of fish fillets such as sea bream, plaice, ocean pike, and pike perch, along with calamaries and shrimp.
Expertly grilled, the fish and seafood share a pleasant char and crispness on the outside, while remaining succulent and moist inside. The herbs and garlic coating imparts a fresh, aromatic layer that balances the smoky, savory notes of the grill, without overpowering the natural flavor of the fish.
The sea bream is mild and sweet with a tender, flaky texture, while the plaice has a delicate, slightly nutty taste and smooth, soft flesh. The ocean pike offers a firm, buttery flavor, and the pike perch has a clean, mildly sweet taste. The calamaries are grilled till tender with a light smokiness, while the shrimps are juicy, fresh, and slightly sweet.
A wedge of lime elevates the flavors with a citrusy freshness, rounding out this satisfying, well-rounded dish.
One of our absolute favorites is the Grilled Sea Bream, a generous portion of whole fish. The skin is beautifully charred, crispy to the point of being almost crunchy, with a savory, lightly smoky flavor. As you cut into the fish, the juicy flesh is revealed, along with a natural fish broth within, exuding its oceanic, fresh essence.
The sea bream itself is incredibly tender, so smooth that almost melts in your mouth, contrasting wonderfully with the crunchy, savory skin. This fish has a mild yet flavorful taste, subtly sweet, with just enough saltiness to remind you of its coastal origins.
A side of salad brings a freshness, while the garlicky aioli, with its creamy richness, undoubtedly adds to the indulgence. This dish combines delicacy and depth. It’s light yet rich, with the fish’s refined sweetness that pairs perfectly with the smoky grill flavor.
Interestingly, while this restaurant is run by a Moroccan family, its menu leans heavily into Spanish influences, featuring tapas, escabeche-style sardines, and even paella. This fusion reflects Morocco’s deep cultural and geographical ties to Spain. Yet, the essence of Moroccan culinary tradition comes through in the simplicity and flavors of the grilled seafood and fish. Known for its abundant fishing waters along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, Morocco has long used grilling to highlight the natural freshness of its catch. Whether Moroccan or Spanish, at Petit Mediterrane, you’ll enjoy a distinct, authentic taste of the Mediterranean, blending smoky, herbaceous Moroccan grills and bright, tangy, and diverse elements of Spanish cooking.
